Who are you ?
I am Nelly. I have suffered from UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections) for many, many years. Regev, the main author at FreshBeetle contacted me a few weeks ago and offered me to write about the relation between cranberries and UTIs, as many people believe that this fruit is a magic potion against this medical condition. Fortunately, I am here to save you the headache and waste of time that many people experience by trying to cure their UTIs with cranberries.
Do Cranberries Really Cure UTIs ?
In short: No. Why not? Well, it is very common, this mis-belief, that cranberries are the best way of treating urinary tract infections. Even though people try that without success, this myth seems to keep hitting the mouths of thousands of thousands of female sufferers all over the world. I was also like that. I used to think so, and dogmatically drank that sour cranberries juice over and over, without success.
It all changed when I met my doctor, who was soon to be my mentor. He showed me all the evidences and researches regarding cranberries and UTIs. Apparently, cranberries are really, really effective at preventing urinary tract infections at first place, but can not cure any UTI that is already present, and that’s the point most people miss.
Why Should I Do Then ?
If you are already having an infection, forget about cranberries. I mean, consume them as much as you want, they have their benefits, but do not live with any expectations for them to cure you. There are many other solutions and treatments for UTIS, but this is far from the spectrum of this article, who was intended to show that cranberries simply can not treat UTIs that are already present. If you do not have one, cranberries in any form (juice, powder, whatever) can certainly help you avoid one.
