What is a wellness hotel? A wellness hotel, sometimes referred to as the “healthel,” is a duel purpose destination. Not only are they meant to be relaxing, but can also serve as an entire health maintenance facility.

There are several definitions of the wellness hotel. One was created as a place to house patients and their family’s who may require long-term care at nearby hospital or other medical facility. The other type is designed to be a complete destination in itself. The wellness hotel may offer such services as diet improvement or coaching, nutrition and exercise programs, and incorporate a spa-like experience. Many wellness hotels may be located near activities such a ski resorts and/or lodges dedicated to activities associated with healthy lifestyles.

In many cases, large medical centers may join into partnerships with hotels to serve the needs of outpatients and their families. The levels of luxury and degree of services can vary greatly among these hotels so careful examination of services offered should be used when looking at staying at a wellness hotel. The hotels are often not connected with any type of large hospital service yet still may offer medical care. Some of these hotels have been around the U.S. since the early 20′s, so the concept is nothing new.

Also popular in Europe, wellness hotels are something that has been catching on more in the U.S. The facilities are most often associated with spas and may employ fitness consultants, dietitians, nutritionists, wellness coaches, and various other health care professionals. While the hotel is equipped to handle heath and wellness issues, the difference is most often in the luxurious accommodations. One of the biggest benefits of the hotels are that they can help guests and visitors obtain specific goals which they may have set for themselves. Such as loosing a certain amount of weight, helping lower cholesterol levels, or a myriad of other health and wellness related goals.

If considering a wellness hotel, it’s important to know what each one offers. Some hotels may simply offer a special menu and have a spa, so its important to do your research. Here at Wellness Hotel Review, our intent is to look at these hotels and help you determine which one is best for you and your needs.

The “healthtel” trend
The healthtel is a dual purpose destination. Wellnesshotels are hip, they’re clean, and there may already be one near you! With the economy these days, many people are utilizing home exercises to stay in shape and save money. However, if you’re still planning a vacation, why not combine the two (vacation and exercise) with a trip to a wellnesshotel?

So why has wellness lodging and the spa & wellness hotel become so popular? Think about the rising costs of doctor referrals, rising health care costs, and the ever increasing wait times at your local clinic. Why not plan a vacation and get a health checkup at the same time!

If in the U.S., why not try one of these wellness hotels:
