Canyon Ranch Resort is located Near Tucson, Arizona. That just sounds relaxing doesn’t it? Beyond the usual cooking classes and spa treatment, Canyon Ranch Resort offers exercise physiology, medical services, and nutrition classes. This place is loaded with staff dedicated to making your stay a healthy one. Staff on grounds include: physicians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, healing touch practitioners (that sounds good!), dermatologists, behavioral therapists, movement and aquatic therapists, physical therapists, nutritionists, exercise physiologists, and podiatrists. Whew, that’s a lot of specialists. No matter what your ailment, they’ve got you covered. And you’ll be glad to know that the entire team at Canyon Ranch has been trained at NYU, Harvard, and Stanford. So they’re dedicated to getting the best talent.
Let’s look at their features and rooms. There are three different types of rooms:
- Deluxe: These room are just like any nice hotel room including a patio. Albeit a bit nicer than most
- Executive: These include an extra sitting area, vanity, and mini refrigerator
- Luxury 1, 2, & 3 bedroom: These are basically like apartments with living room, patio, washer and dryer, dining area and kitchen.
- Casa Grande: This place is 2,700 square feet of “Southwest elegance”
One thing I found interested about Canyon Ranch is they do allow smoking outdoors yet alcohol is not permitted, served, or sold in any public area. Just found that a little odd. Maybe it’s a dry county… not sure there were any of those in Arizona?
Canyon Ranch resort or wellness hotel offers a “peak performance” program which requires a minimum a 4 night stay. With state-of-the-art testing, this program includes a complete consultation with their fitness staff. A doctor (physician) meets with you to evaluate your potential and physical condition, you receive one-on-one guidance with your own nutritionist, an physiologist in exercise creates a custom training plan, and even a behavioral specialist to help you with the mental and social aspects of your health.
Another great aspect of the peak performance program is the option to specialize in a certain sporting area such as running, golf, biking, tennis, swimming, and even triathlon. The package includes consultations with specialists and laboratory testing to help you get into peak condition for your chosen sport concentration. To give you an idea of the cost, for the tennis specialized package, you’ll shell out $2,480 and $3,080 for golf. Honestly, we were surprised at the price, and do not think those prices are too extremely high. Granted it’s only a four night stay, but the specialized attention you get is incredible. Since price for these services and wellnesshotels can vary so much throughout the country and world, we did not figure up how much each of these services would cost someone on an individual basis, but we’re certain it would be substantially more.
The Canyon Ranch resort is also home of the BioPhysical250 blood test program. This program includes over 250 biomarkers which help for early detection of cancer, immunity, cardiovascular disease, and gastrointestinal and hormonal conditions. This greatly increase the chance for preventive measures by physicians. The cost is $3,400.
TripAdvisor gives Canyon Ranch 4 out of 5 stars. Most reviews were positive about the grounds and facilities but only a few had some negative comments about the staff. But overall, the consensus is beautiful place to stay, refreshing and relaxing.
